Please Help!!!!!!
Hi Folks,
I'm new to forums of this genre and would really appreciate some advice.... I'll start with the standard list of thangs... MOBO: GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 CPU: C2D e6600 RAM: Geil 1GB (2x512) 6400 GX21GB6400DC @ 800mhz GPU: GeCube X850XT Uniwise SOUND: EMU 0404 PSU: Jeantech Arctic 600w CASE: Jeantech Nitro DRIVE1: WD 250Gb DRIVE2: Hitachi Deskstar 80Gb CD: Generic LG DVD-R Now. I put this monstrosity together today. When she is powered up there is a long beep for about 3 seconds. The machine then shuts off, waits another 3-5 seconds and starts the process repeats. I'm sure I could leave it on overnight and it would be quite happy resetting itself til' I took a bat to it. I've tried all the usual stuff; changed heatsinks, changed ram ports, disconnected all sata and ide drives including GPU and sound. All with the same outcome. I've also not found much on other forums addressing this exact problem. Could the board be DOA? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. And I do believe in karma.... Thanks for reading folks. Cheers. Matt |

Your board has an Award BIOS.
Here are the BIOS beep codes... check and see if you can match the beep codes to one on the list: http://www.bioscentral.com/beepcodes/awardbeep.htm And... one of the most common problems is the improper installation of the heatsink... go here for the instructions: Intel 775 Stock HSF Install Guide |

Having problems with a new build? Try this. You must remove the motherboard from the case when doing this. Let us know what happens.

Also.... make sure you have the 24-pin main power supply connector and the 4-pin ATX12V square connector connected to the motherboard.
And... if your video card has a 6-pin PCI-E connector make sure you plug the 6-pin PCI-E power connector from the PSU to it. |

Nearly....
Thanks so much for the replies folks. You are truly legends.
I triend the MOBO outside the case with one stick of RAM and the GPU seated. I didn't get a beep!!! However I didn't get any visuals from my card. I have now seated my MOBO back in the case. With both sticks of RAM seated and NO GPU I do not get a beep. When I put the GPU into the slot I get a beep, but only sometimes. This is really frustrating. The worst part is that I am getting no juice from my card. This is with the 6pin connector plugged in. I also tried an old x300 I had lying around with the same result! NO VISUALS!!! BAH! Any ideas now? Does this change anything? Cheers |

Double check and make sure the heatsink is installed securely.
Do you have another stick of memory you can try besides the Geil ones? How about another PSU? |

You really should leave the motherboard out of the case while troubleshooting. You don't put it back into the case until you can get it to boot up and give you something on the monitor.
I'm not sure how good JeanTech power supplies are. Can you get your hands on another compatible power supply to test with? If the problem isn't the power supply then you may have a defective motherboard on your hands. Cricket
