So I buy a Dell Dim 3000 and the motherboard goes bad. It's out of warranty and I buy a BRAND NEW board from a company called Centurion. Anyway, the board was a numbers matching Dell board, brand new in box.... and put the thing in the computer, and boom. Nothing. The computer powers up, but it's like there is no BIOS at all, no Post test... nothing. Just sits there humming along, doing nothing. I downloaded the BIOS from Dell, but what board wouldn't have a BIOS installed already?? Is this the problem? Or did I screw something up? I've built computers before and I've never had an issue. Anyway, anyone have a suggestion?

Did you add anything else to the machine (video card, 2nd HDD, etc.) or is it stock?
How did you figure the motherboard was bad? |

Unfortunately, Dell, or any company for that matter, is not immune to failures. Just curious, but how was it determined it was a mobo failure?

Also double check and make sure you installed the heatsink and fan correctly. Did you clean off the old layer of thermal compound and apply a new layer?
Did you connect both the main PSU connector and the 4-pin square connector to the motherboard? Double check and make sure the memory and video cards are seated properly. Reseat them to be sure. If you have more than one stick of ram... try leaving only one stick in at a time. |

Didn't change a thing about the computer. Added everything from the old board to the new one, exchanged all the plugs and triple-checked everything I did.
The old board was deemed "bad" by Dell support. I had added a second HD and it wouldn't recognize the new one or the old one. Stopped booting up altogether, only went to BIOS, even after I took the second HD out again, didn't matter. The jumpers were set correctly, I checked both IDE ports, changed cables, did everything I could, and Dell really couldn't think of anything else either, and it never did boot up again. And now, It's worse. |

Do you have another power supply you can try?
Try clearing the CMOS. By the way... what is the model of the motherboard you added? |
