amd build
Looking for suggestions for an amd build for general all around use. I know the that Intel is the fav these days but i have had no luck with them over the years and am pretty set in sticking with AMD. $600 budget - already have monitor, speakers, keyboard and mouse. Don't want to install Vista yet but would like this build to accomodate that upgrade when and if I later switch to it. Any help and input certainly wanted. Oh yeah - do already have 2 dvd burners so wouldnt need optical either
Thanks in advance |

Since this is a general use computer will on-board video be okay or do you need a separate video card for playing games with?
Any special needs? Cricket

Comes out to $597.92 without shipping. This also does not factor in the $30.00 mail-in rebate for the Corsair memory modules.

I did not know if you needed the OS. If so... that will make the cost go over your budgeted amount.
You can always downgrade the CPU to save a few bucks. |

I would recommend one of the GeForce 8000 series video cards. EVGA is a good brand to go with.

Thats true. If you are not a gamer... the GeForce 7600GT is a decent choice: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130017 |

Then the onboard video will be enough most likely.

Concur. Stick with onboard, and if gaming becomes an issue, add an 8 series video card.
I didn't see an optical (DVD/CD) drive anywhere in these lists. Make sure to get one; you'll need it! LiteOn is a good brand; get retail (not OEM) 'cause retail comes with software.
