A Quality Build for Under $300???

I've had too much time on my hand recently and thought I would share this build I put together. It is $298 without keyboard/mouse, or OS. Or you can keep it around $200 if your willing to not use a case. Its not going to be blazing fast, but its a computer. (all of the parts are good quality as well...might not be fast...but good quality).

You can make it cheaper by getting less ram, or a lower quality PSU, but its worth spending the extra few dollars. Another bonus is that this build is very small, and will work well for people who just want to use the internet.

Enjoy

For that price... going with a Dell would be a better option though.

Well yes if you wan't a used computer (scratch and dent as well). Even then the price of this build is cheaper, although the dell comes with an OS...I think. But if you put linux on this I think it would really run nicely.

The build that I'm trying to create is actually to replace a refurbed Dell Dimensions 4600. I bought it off the Dell Refurb link you used. I paid about $500 for it in August of 2003. Intel p4 2.4ghz, 40GB HD, 256 ram, and a big ole' 64mb video card. It makes many sad sounds everytime I turn it on right now......but for the money I gotta say I ran it hard for almost 4 years now, not bad!

Ehh... the Dells have newer technology in them and are good systems for their price. If you want something cheap... you cannot build one better than the Dells.

The build list you have is okay... but comprised of outdated technology. Might be better off going with a Socket 754 or Socket 939 setup instead.

yeah i know. To be honest heres how I put it together:
1) saw a post with cricket joking at the C3 processor.
2) went to newegg and saw it was cheap
3) put a build togeth around it

Are you actually going to build this computer? Don't expect much from a 800MHz C-3 CPU, their performance is really sluggish by today's standards. The only redeeming quality they have is that you can run them without a heatsink...they run outrageously cool. But's that's probably why they aren't real good performers either.
