cpu install problem

hi

this is my 1st build...i am trying to install a core2duo e6420 into an asus p5b-e mobo

i have followed the instructions and i am at the point where i am supposed to re-lock the tension lever after dropping the cpu into place...
the cpu drops in perfectly (i have removed the plastic covers, etc), but when i am trying to push the lever back down there is an awful lot of resistance...
is this normal?

thanks in advance
