Liquid Cooling Question

I've already bought a couple parts for my AMD build and this time around I've decided to go liquid cooling. My initial intentions were to buy a liquid cooling kit, and then learn from that and then make a custom liquid cooling system. Then I kinda just figured why not just do a custom system? So I visited a couple websites that came up on Google and as I was searching for a CPU block, the terms 1/4" CPU, 1/2" CPU and such were coming up. What do these numbers refer to and how do I figure which measurement will suit me? And FYI, my intended CPU is a socket AM2.

Take a look at THIS post and the second guide I linked in it. Should answer your questions and give you a general idea of what goes into a water loop.

Good choice on not going with a kit.

Alright, I didn't want to start a new thread and upset the mods so I'm just going to post this question in here.

I've got a liquid cooling system in my PC right now and I'm still deciding if I should expand my loop to include my chipsets. The only problem I have is size. I have a full sized tower and all of my LCS equipment is inside my case. Now, given that I have 1/2" ID tubes, it sort of made my case less spacious.

My question is, if I downgrade the size of the tube, the water traveling through it will rise in temperature, right?

I'd also like to know how much of a temperature difference would there be, if it possible to tell.
