Suggestions Please on new build
I've put together a list for a new computer. Could you please take a look to make sure everything is compatible? Any and all suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

I'll definitely go with your suggestions on the memory, heatsink, and power supply. I used Kingston for the past few years, though and never had trouble.
But I am big on Western Digital. Is Seagate your personal preference, or are they actually a better drive. I know they're good, and have been highly rated for years, but so has WD. I used two Lite-Ons for my last build. They worked fine, except when I filled one up with a home movie. Near the end of almost every one, they started freezing up. I switched to a Plextor, and never had another problem. From reading reviews of Plextor, they seemed to have lost a little of their quality lately. So I went with Sony, not really sure what to do on this one. |

Well... people argue about this all the time. But Seagates have a better track record for me and I believe for most people on here.
But both WD and Seagate are good... so I don't think you can go wrong with either one. As for the optical... its your choice. Sony is good. |

Seagate is a better 7200 drive. Thats been proven over and over again. But the Raptor, well no other sata drive can touch it.
I would recommend that you get the 74Gb raptor, or the 150Gb raptor as you will want to have the ability to run cetain apps of of it.

Thanks for the help, I really appreciated it. I don't think I'd have made it through my first build (The one in my sig), without all the help from peolpe like you in this forum.
Thank you. |

Theres nothing wrong with WD either besides the performance. Seagates 7200.7 and .8 series were hell. I've had 3 7200.8's die on me. Before the 7200.10 and perpendicular recording, WD was accepted has the one with better performance and a better price/gb ratio. They were also decently reliable, compared to the older seagates that is.
Seagate has some really great CS support nowadays too. On top of a 5 year warranty. They also happen to be the ones with the performance dge.

Thanks again! I just ordered the Apricorn for repair work. And I'll order the Icy Hot for my new build.

Just FYI, that Apricorn is made for 2.5'' notebook hard drives. It will not fit regular 3.5'' desktop hard drives if im not mistaken..
Although I highly suggest apricorn enclosures, never heard of ICY dock myself. I would go with a retail lite on DVDRW drive. If you want to save a few bucks, the Corsair 520w is for $95 with free shipping here. |

The Apricon I ordered was for a 3 1/2" drive, but you gave me a start there. I went back and checked. And the ICY Dock is eSATA, that's why I liked it,, and it was recommended in this forum
Thanks for the tip about saving a little. I usually order through newegg and never price shop. |
