A few tips would be appreciated (Build)

Why hello there. I would just like to first off thank this community for helping me with my first computer, almost two years ago. The time has come for a new PC. The parts are all around my house and I am just waiting on the processor heatsink and PSU to arrive.

My main question is that I am still waiting for the PSU to arrive, and would I be too hasty to get everything else ready in anticipation? Or would it be better to keep everything nice and static free until all parts are accounted for ;3

About thermal pastes. Is it really that difficult? I had been reading up on it and am absolutely terrified I am going to destroy something, I even went with ceramic to avoid a possible issue.

Also, I went for 4 gigs of ram (durr ) Would it be best to just use 1 stick for initial post + os installation, then put the other 3 in? Or just go ahead and start with all four sticks?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks to you my first build went without a hitch, I had one issue, then went DURR as I had not connected the psu to the board ;3

I would get a Lite-On optical drive instead of the Samsung. Make sure it is SATA too.

CoolMax PSUs are recommended either. This one is good: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139001

Your other parts look okay. I assume you are planning to overclock?

I have no idea about over clocking. It really seemed scary to me. Just because I really dont know enough about it to approach it safely >:3 I mostly planned to just upgrade to a quad-core in a few months.

As far as ordering new parts. Everything is already sitting around in boxes ;3

Hopefully it will not be a tremendous issue for myself ;3

You are a very friendly evil duck ;3

You don't need this since the stock heatsink and fan will already come with it preapplied. Using the stock one will allow you to keep the warranty on the CPU intact.

I would just do the one stick first.

Make sure you read this guide here before install the CPU heatsink and fan: Intel 775 Stock HSF Install Guide

EDIT: Sorry about my first post. I did not realize that you already bought all the parts.

Isn't it better to use a 3rd party one? I purchased a combo deal, sorry for not mentioning, I was trying to delete all the extra things, (keyboard, mouse, speakers bla bla ;3)

If I dont plan to overclock is it mostly a waste to install it?

Can you return it?

I would use the stock heatsink and fan... it will not void your warranty on the CPU that way.

I don't think I can because it was part of a combo deal with the processor, so I would need to return both and... I am harbled up enough waiting for the PSU.

I guess, is the stock fan enough to keep it just fine and dandy? I guess I can holdon to the better one in case I ever plan to overclock, thereby ruining the warrenty anyway correct?

yes...but they really won't know if you've used a better one.

But the stock fan will be fine.

So I should just use the stock fan, thermal pad. Then shelve the awesome ultra heatsink and ceramic paste?

At least they look neat I guess. If I ever plan to OC I would use those right?

Yep... stick with stock.

See if you can sell the aftermarket HSF. Or you can just hold on to it for now.

The evga board has had a very problematic history. I would suggest the P5N32-E SLI, its a bit more expensive but worth it.

That ram does boot at 2.1v, I can't gurantee that it will boot at first try, but worst come worst, you'll have to buy a cheapo stick of ddr2 to get into the bios and set proper voltage.

I also second minsonngo's psu choice, but if when you go SLI, you'll need to upgrade it to a beefier one.

That asus heatsink is more bling then performance IMO.

Samsung's hard drives do not have that great of a track record. I would personally go with Seagate 7200.10 series.

Haha... you made the same mistake as I did originally. The OP already bought all of his parts and it is sitting at his house already. He is just waiting for the PSU to come in.

Agh, er, Issue I could use some help with.

The cables that came with the motherboard to attach to the HDD have the gride type thing, I am assuming is IDE. But the hard drive does not have the pins, instead it has the gold plates like a PCI card.

I am sorry to sound vague >_>; Do I need to order new cables or is there something I am missing?

Master is of course [] : : : Though SATA is : : [] : is that just for two hdd? DURR sorry!

Didn't the motherboard come with any SATA data cables? They're usually red with black plastic connectors on the ends. The power connection from the power supply have to be SATA power connectors too. If the power supply only has 4 pin molex connectors you can 4 pin molex to SATA power adaptors.

You shouldn't have to mess with any jumpers on the SATA hard drive.

;3 The jumper came seperate with the screws, and I am just assuming I am to set it to master, as it is of course, the master, not the slave! ;3 ( They will change that for political correctness eventually )

the force-set 1.6gbps is for an sata array right? Not just one ;3

You don't have to use the jumper on the SATA hard drive for master/slave designations because there are no master or slave with SATA...it's only 1 hard drive per motherboard connection.

The limitation jumper is only used if your motherboard only supports the slower SATA 1.5 data transfer speeds. If your motherboard supports SATA 3.0 you don't need the jumper.

Sata doesn't need to be set tomaster, no jumper is needed. So you can be PC (politically correct) now!

...im not sure about your second question. Actually would somebody mind explaining what force-set is?

EDIT: Oh to force the drive to 1.5Gbs..I understand now.

Sounds good.

You could also just turn the PC on...anybody touches it...ZaAaPpP!

But that wouldn't be the best for the computer either

I just wanted to update that it posted on the first try, I set the ram to 2.2v and it runs entirely cool ;3 I used the stock fan with the headpads on it, though they were in a weird shape and, I just hope I put it on the right way, as the instructions only had pictures and no real indetifications as to which way to place it ;3

Though it did not explode so I assume it went well.

Formatting the hard drive for windows currently. Plan to install the ram after ;3

TY for your help once again >:3
