AMD desktop build for college

I need a new computer for college. Right now i think ill only need the tower. probably not xp too. I can spend 800 to 1000 dollars for the tower. hopefully around 800

I want to do some gaming but nothing hard core. I will also need to be able to run some multimedia programs.

So far i think ill want...

AMD anthon X2 5000 or around that

250 to 320 gb hard drive

nvidia 7600 graphics

2 gb memory

DVD±R/±RW + CD-R/RW Drive

Plenty of usb ports

dont know much about mother board or power supplies. so thats what i really need help with.

I'll most likely get a basic case but I am always open to suggestions for anything.

thanks for any help. just tell me if you need more info to help me.

A intel core 2 duo setup would outperform that AMD without costing a whole lot.

If you stick with the AM2, go for the M2N-E from asus and a quality 400-450w power supply. Something like the Xclio Stablepower 460w or the AMS Mercury 460w would be a few good examples.

If you go with Intel, look at a E4300 with a Asus P5B or a Asus P5L-MX.

I like the CoolerMaster Centurion 5 for a basic but quality case.

And... if you go AM2... go with DDR2-800 memory modules. Corsair is a good brand to look at.

As for an HDD... this one is nice: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148140

And the optical you have picked out... make sure you get a drive with an SATA interface. Lite-On is a good deal.

FOR AM2 builds... we suggest DDR2-800. AM2 builds are very picky with memory.

I'd think about changing that RAM, not too familiar with it and if you are going intel, DDR2 667 is enough to do you good.

EDIT:

Stick with the corsair that I linked. You don't need DDR2 800 only 667 and that is not as good of a brand
