What supplies for gaming rig?

My friend wants me to build hiim a gaming rig that costs anywhere under 2,000. i need supplies for everything in the desktop no monitor or keyboard, or mouse. I have a RAIDMAX case that i want to put everything into, so ill just need all of the other stuff. I know what things to get(PSU,HDD,MOBO,etc.) but i dont know any good or proper brands that would be good for a gaming rig for that price.

links would be good...

Just to get you started... comes out to $1,669.82 without shipping. The rest of of the $2000 can be used for an OS... keyboard & mouse... and maybe some speakers.

I would stick with XP until Vista releases the FIRST service pack later this year.

But its your friends choice... get him whatever he is comfortable using.

You have a bunch of different threads going on that basically are about the same thing...building a new computer. To keep things simple and orderly you really should keep all your questions in one thread so we can see how things are progressing.

I'm going to chirp in here, and minsonngo knows exactly what I'm going to say

...I would go vista. I bet your friend is using an old computer, and can't find drivers, and things just aren't working for him.

Well with my new build computer (October 06') things have been running much better now that I switched from XP pro to Vista Ultimate.

I am using 64-bit, which is great, but for now ill just try and convince you to get vista...

From my limited knowledge of hardware this seems good, I'm also building a new PC. I'm going to college and want a pc for gaming(Hellgate London when it releases) and for using programs such as 3ds Max and the editor in Oblivion and Neverwinter nights 2. I want to be able to run all this smoothly, is this setup going to give me this or do i need some better components because I will easily spend some more on a rig that will work better.

By the way, is this all i need, or are there other parts that you didn't mention because they are just less important? I have no idea what I need to Completely build a new pc.

Constantine, you should start your own thread if you have questions; keeps things from getting muddled up.
