Newbie media build...

I am going to try and build a PC just for media purposes, like storing and watching movies, tv shows, etc. at my home. I want to be able to control it via my laptop, like a 2nd desktop on my laptop that will use my TV as the monitor. I'm already looking at http://www.maxivista.com/ for the software. I want to build something relatively inexpensive, but with a huge hard drive and decent graphics/sound card. Any suggestions? I've already ordered a case, but that is as far as I've gone.

Welcome to PCMech. We need a couple more details to help you out.

What is your budget? "Relatively inexpensive" can mean lots of things depending on who you ask.

Do you prefer Intel or AMD?

Do you need Windows?

Sorry, I read the sticky, but I guess I missed a few things. I really don't have a budget in mind, because I'm just going to take my time and buy a few items at a time. I suppose my budget would be around $1200.00 or so, not including a keyboard, mouse, monitor (I want to use my TV as a monitor, and I have an old CRT sitting in the closet I can use if I need to) or speakers. I don't have a preference between AMD or Intel. I was going to use Windows XP Media Center for my OS. Anything else I need to add?

This is a basic list, I wasn't sure how much you class as a 'huge hard drive' so I went with two 500GB drives.

Unless you already have a OS you will need to factor in the price for this too.
