PSU problem?

Ok, started building a new comp a few weeks ago when i ran into a problem. After setting everything up, i flicked the switch to boot up for the first time. The PSU seemed to hesitate a little and the LED in the back never came on. The fan for the CPU and video card came on but there was nothing on screen, also none of the case fans came on. I turned it off and plugged the monitor in the back, when i booted up again, no fans worked at all and the PSU flashed and sputtered. I triple checked everything, took the mobo and all essentials out of the case and tried it on some wood, nothing. I eventually sent the PSU back to newegg and they sent me another one, this one has the same problem. Even when it's not powering anything the LED in the back never comes on. I don't know if I somehow managed to get 2 bad PSU's or if I'm not doing something right. This is my second PC build and I had no problems like this before. Any help will be appreciated, thanks!

My PC specs are:

PSU - 650W Precise NZXT
Mobo - Gigabyte GA-M61P-S3 GF6100 AM2
CPU - AMD 64x2 6000
VGA - Nvidia BFG 8800GTS
RAM - 4 GB Patriot DDR2 800

Never heard of that brand of PSU before and after doing some research, I assume you probably got it with your case? At any case, unless someone knows more, I think there's a good possibility you got 2 bad PSUs if indeed that brand is a bad one

Yeah, that's a brand that's not even on our 'bad' list. First, get a hold of a PSU on the 'good' list: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=131195

Also, make sure you're folowing these procedures for the initial build: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=168456

Try leaving only ONE stick of memory installed.

Do you have brass standoffs mounted between the case and motherboard?

Do you have the 24-pin and 4-pin PSU connectors connected to the motherboard. How about the 6-pin PCI-E power supply connector connected to the video card?

Make sure you have the CPU heatsink and fan mounted correctly also.
