Putting together a PC

Hi Gang

I am putting together a PC.. I seen some thing on a guys computer he had in a ad. It was in the place of where you have your CD/DVD drives. I was a card reader, firewall connection, USB plugins, etc. What would some thing like this be called, and where would a persob look for one of these say on Ebay or Amazon, etc.? I think it even had a temp readout.

Thanks......Gunny

Here's another search concentrated on card readers:

As you can see from the selections, there's a lot out there. Exactly what are you looking for?

Building a PC

Hi gang

Does any one know what took the place of the Asus P4P800.? It is supposed to be one of the better boards around. Does Asus put out any thing to compare to it. And I hear Intel puts out a good board too, any recommendations.?

Thanks........Gunny

I'm not familiar with the P4P800...but I am familiar with the new asus boards. Exactly what do you need the board for?

The P5B comes highly suggested here. Although it might soon be replaced by the new P5K...

Oh and did you find a reader you liked?
Here are some to look at:

by the way, if you want a lot of USB ports, a USB hub will look much better. Plugging USB into the front can be real ugly.

Putting together a PC

HI Whubbard

Ya the Asus P4P800 was put out a few years ago, was a really great board, real stable. Plus it had a lot of nice features and the 478 socket. Plus 2 SATA connection points.

I am putting together a computer for the garage, so I can stop the running in the house all the time when I want to look up something or check my e-mail. Plus one to experiment with a little, so as not to mess up my main computer. I have power supply's, HD's, and cases, now comes the MB, CPU, Ram, etc.

I did find a reader, and a USB accessory, that fits in the spare Floppy space. I know you don't like these but it works good for me. So this just about does it for my main one, reason for asking about the MOBO is I want one that compares to the P4P800 in quality, and features.

Thanks........Gunny

the socket 478 is outdated and the socket 775 is what is used now.

The current ASUS equivalent to the old P4P800 motherboard series is the P5B series of motherboards that accept LGA775 processors.

yes, for current stabilty the P5B.

But as I was saying earier...the P5K is basically the replacement for the P5B, but be prepared for a few possible glitches.

Putting together a PC

Hi Gang

Has any one heard of a, Gigabyte GN-8A-SLI Pro board.???? Any good.???? It has a 3.2ghz Pentium D + fan, I can pick it up for $50 good or bad deal.??? Remember this is going to be used on a computer for the garage, not my main one. Experimenting and e-mailing, etc.

Thanks.......Gunny

Question Putting together

Hi gang

I thought I would have some bites on my question above. I was surprised at not seeing any. Is this a strange board, CPU combination or what.

I have to move on this fairly soon so I would appreciate any info any one can give me.

Thanks......Gunny......

Are you finding this bundle online? If so, a link to the details would help.

Without looking at the details and specs, it looks like a decent deal to me. Gigabyte's a decent brand and if it's SLI it's got a good nVidia chipset. A 3.2GHz Pentium D still packs a punch, especially for what you'll be using it for. Even $50 for a 3.2GHz Pentium D is a decent deal, and if that does turn out to be a decent mobo, sounds like a better deal to me. I'd like to see the details first, but that's just my 2 cents...
