Dedicated video card for output to TV?

I'm building a new system and am trying to decide whether to invest in a dedicated video card, or to stay with an onboard chipse. I'm going to be using the system mostly to watch movies. Am I going to get better performance and/or quality with a seperate video card? Or would an onboard video chipset with perhaps DVI output be sufficient?

I've never seen a motherboard that uses on-board video with a DVI output, only analog.

Personally, I'd use a separate video card instead of the on-board to watch movies with.

Me neither. And I would also recommend getting a video card for your viewing pleasure.

It helps in a couple of ways. One is that onboard video shares resources, like memory, with other things. Another is that a separate card is more tuned to watch video and has more power to do so.
