First time build..$1000 budget including monitor

Please comments...

Budget: $1000 including 22'' LCD monitor. Parts are ordered and on the way...hope everything is alright..

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E4400 Allendale 2.0GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E4400 - Retail

MOBO: ASUS P5N-E SLI LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

PSU: Ultra 600w X-Finity Power Supply w/2 80mm / Titan

Memory: CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) -Retail

VideoCard: EVGA GeForce 7900 GS KO 256MB PCIe w/Dual DVI/HDTV

HardDrive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320620AS (Perpendicular Recording Technology) 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM

Case: RAIDMAX SMILODON ATX-612WBP Black SECC STEEL ATX Mid Tower - Retail

Monitor: Acer® AL2216Wbd 22" Widescreen Digital/Analog LCD Monitor, Black

Total Price after Rebate: $988. ($12 under budget)

Future Improvement if needed: Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Heatsink / Branded SoundCard & Speaker / Quieter 120mm/80mm fan.

Plan to overclock to 3.0Ghz. Heard it is easy to do with E4400 and doesn't need a brand headsink cooler. With E4400 x10 multiplier, only need to increase FSB from 800MHz to 1066MHz, then all set. Then you have an E6700 with just 2MB of L2 cache.

Btw, what software do you guys use to test/load the system & monitor cpu/mobo temperature? any good free ones? Thanks!

Too bad you didn't put up your list before you ordered those parts...we really can't help you now.

Good luck with the overclock.

I know i already ordered. But please do comment, so i can learn and make better choices later on

As to the ULTRA PSU, looks like most online reviews are positive to the ultra X-finity series. The bad ones are the X-connect series. So I picked a 600w x-finity one which fits my budget. Let see how it goes..finger crossed...

Sissondra, CPUZ, your stock heaksink/fan shoud will be enough for mild overclocking.. Remember if you buy a after market cpu cooler, you void your cpu's warranty...

You'll need 300mhz FSB to run it a 3ghz. Your ram and motherboard will be able to handle it easily, the CPU will be the weak point here in your maximum overclock. I doubt you'll be using enough voltage to need a aftermarket cooler, but it all depends on how good of an overclocker the chip is, so I would definitely hold off on the cooler.

And you can use Orthos to load test and CoreTemp to check temperatures.

The Ultra 600W X-Finity is not bad, you're correct. It is made by a slightly better manufacturer and will not burst into flames or anything of that sort. But it is still not high quality either, compared to say, FSP or even CWT (Antec), depending on what you paid for it, you probably could've done better.

If you got it with a huge rebate then probably not *as* bad of a deal.

Thx Mr. Ferrari. Ya, i got that ultra 600w psu for $29.9 after rebate + shipping, which makes my budget under $1000 without using the case included psu.

By the way, I just found Antec 900 for sale at $89 in local microcenter store. I think the 900 has much bigger potential for future system update than the raidmax smilodon case. If I return the raidmax case i ordered from newegg without open the box, how much it will cost me? Shipping + 15% free? wondering if it worths the hassle

Thanks!
