Angry New PC Help

I just got the parts in the mail for and built a new PC 5 days ago. By the end of the day, it was up and running just fine, which was very exciting, considering it was my first PC built. On Saturday, I left for a day and a half, and I come back, and when I press the power button, nothing happens. I did not change anything from when I shut it down on Saturday. I've tried a bench test, different power supplies, and anything else I thought would help. Nothing...

you may have fried your mobo and/or other components. but thats not fore sure, go to your local frys electronics or whatever local part supplier you use and ask for their reccomendation on test or what to do.

Do you know if you had any thunder storms in the area while you were away? If the computer is plugged in to power and the internet and there was a lightning strike nearby the hit may have gotten to your PC through those lines.

When you did your bench test, did you pull the motherboard from the case and use a screwdriver to jump the PWR ON pins?

What are the complete system specs for this computer? List the parts by brand and model includcing the power supply.

No need to have nazgul42 go to a shop to pay for repairs, we can help him figure out the problem. That's what this forum is for...to help others with their computer problems.

Thanks for your responses. I don't think it thunderstormed, though I'm not sure. The PC is plugged into a surge protector and turned off though. For the bench test, yes to both questions. My parts are here:
Foxconn 760GXK8MC-RS Socket 754 Motherboard
AMD Sempron 2600+ Socket 754 64-Bit (Palermo)
Inland U-Case Black Micro ATX x/ 300w Power Supply
Kingston KVR333X64C25/512
The rest I salvaged from my old computer, and I am sure all the parts that I got from it work.

ok... I called TigerDirect who referred me to Foxconn, who ran through a series of diagnostics with me and was able to determine that my mobo is fried and I should get a replacement from TigerDirect. Does anybody know how that could happen? What is really wierd is that my old computer, after going through many other dieing symptoms, eventually led to the same thing. I used the same surge protector, if that matters...

You should also replace the psu that came with the case.. A poor quality psu and fry a mother board and other components when it goes south... In the future avoid Tigerdirect they have poor customer service and good luck in getting a replacement....

What would cause that? The PSU? The Surge Protector?

A faulty psu will can everthing in your machine.. I would first try a new psu before rmaing the board.. How could the tec tell it the mb was bad if you were not getting any power to the machine itself...

The tec guy told me to connect two cords together with a paper clip, and when I did, it turned on... Would that power supply possibly be the reason my mobo fried? should I get a new one? if so, which would you reccomend?

So the only thing you did to fix it was turn it on by shorting the pins on the motherboard? Sounds like your issue is just that the power switch on your case wasn't connected right, or has broken. Try connecting the 'reset' switch to the power posts and using the 'reset' switch to turn on the computer.

I would still replace that psu, as you risk it dying and taking other parts with it.

I posted a link to the recommended PSU thread in my earlier post.

Thanks, and I took the PSU out of the case and shorted it using a paper clip on the 20 pin connector, not the mobo. I will do that, and thanks again for all your help.

You can get something of good quality and good price from Xcio or FSP. Check out that link posted above.
