linux->windows...easy? difficult? impossible?

I recently finished building my first pc and neglected to purchase a system disk. I was considering linux even before I built my machine but I also have an upgrade version of vista. If I download and setup linux, will I have problems switching back to windows when I finally decide to get off my ass and buy a full version of xp? Is gaming possible at all on linux? Is there any free os I can download and then upgrade to vista?

Provided you back up your data, it is very easy to tell the windows installer to nuke linux and fill the harddrive (just make sure to back up anything important first; windows will wipe the whole drive).

Gaming in linux? No, sadly. Particularly not any recent commercial releases. There's all kinds of solitaire, mine-sweeper, space-robots, etc for linux, but nothing much as far as RTS or FPS.

If you just want to get an OS that lets u use the computer for now, I'd suggest ubuntu linux.
