Help (more build problems)

Ok, all my fans work(even the one on my video card) everything seems to work but I get 'no signal' on my monitor when first starting up.

Motherboard
Intel® Desktop Board D975XBX

Cpu
intel core 2 duo 2.4 ghz

Video Card
ATI Radeon x1600 256 mb's pci express

Ram
Corsair XMS2 Xtreme Performance TwinX Matched - Memory - 2 GB ( 2 x 1
GB ) - DIMM 240-pin - DDR II - 800 MHz

I've tried everything in http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=132409 nothing seems to work. I just bought a new SAGA psu (my other one smelled like burning lol).

Either I'm making a really stupid mistake, or I messed up my motherboard with my previous psu, or its something else that I have no clue. Any suggestions?

You tried to troubleshoot this problem with the motherboard out of the case with just the components specified in that thread and you still get no signal?

Are you sure you have all the connections firmly connected?

Are you sure you have all necessary power connections made?

Have you tried it with just 1 stick of RAM?

What brand was the old power supply?

I never heard of SAGA power supplies before so I don't know if it's a good quality one or not.

It's possible that the original power supply died and killed some other part of your computer when it went. That happens with low quality power supplies with no over-voltage protection.

My bad, I actually have a Fortron Source psu (its on the good list).

Yes

Yes

Yes

Yes

It didn't have a brand.. Didn't even have an 'e' number on it. It was cheap and no good.

How can I figure out what component may be broken?

What do you mean? If you get now power at all then the psu might be defected..

Only way I know is to substitute compatible known to be working parts in one at a time until the computer starts up.

I get power, the fans run and whatnot. My old psu was bad though.

This is the first computer I've ever tried to build I don't really have any other parts. Is it more likely to be one thing or another?

Well if you first psu went south, it might have taken other parts with it namely MB.. did you try the out of the case build as Cricket suggested?

When the power supply is connected short the pins on the power switch with a screw driver..If it doesn't power up than you may have to rma the board..

Have you tried resetting the ram, or video card? Try swapping out the ram, install just one, if that doesn't work try the other..
