welcome to pc-mech forum!
this motherboard should be compatible with you video card, which is AGP. The motherboard should also support newer PCI-E video cards, if you decide to upgrade it later. I know couple of people who have used this board and seem to like it...

New egg doesn't have any, your best bet is to try zipzoomfly or some other site that is good.. I did find one, but the want $88 for it..

If you let us know what other parts you already have, we should be able to make you an alternative (and hopefully better!) suggestion.

Sorry it took so long i was doing stuff for the fourth.

my friend just got me a pci express x16 card so that is no problem. now all it has to be compatible with is my ddr400 ram. i am also looking for a new processor so if you could find me a compatible mobo and processor(dual-core if possible), that would be really cool. my spending limit is $200 total.

For $200, not including the RAM, I'd go for this Intel combo:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131048

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115013

For the RAM, I'd look at some Corsair VS DDR2-667 - either 1GB (2x512) or 2GB (2x1gb) depending on needs/budget.

Don't forget that since you're moving to a PCI-Express based system, you'll need a quality ATX2 spec power supply. If you were previously working with AGP, chances are you won't have one.

oh and since it is a duo core does it run faster than 1.8GHz?

800w seems high but it doesn't mean much on its own in terms of spec and quality. It's an important component, can you get the make/model number from the label on the side?

Each core runs at 1.8Ghz, but that's a poor method of comparing performance these days. The C2Ds are very efficient processors, and have LOTS of Level 2 Cache - double that of the AMD processor you were looking at.

OCZ RAM is ok, but suffers from compatibility issues. I'd go for this:

On a forum note, please edit your posts if you have something to add, thanks

k thanks. i will go with what you told me. give me a bit and i will try to find the type of board it is.

thanks for the forum tip too. im not used to forums.

edit:the guy who gave me the power supply lied to me about the watts. i just checked and it is 400watt. The thing is made by SilverStone Technologies and the model number is ENH-0140g XA. hope that helps.

Here's a picture of the label if you want it.

Regarding the power supply, Silverstone are decent quality units. Unfortunately, that particular model is only ATX1 specs, with a 20-pin main power connector. You need ATX2, with a 24-pin connector.

If you let us know what graphics card you've been given, we can recommend a suitable replacement.

No problem in terms of compatibility between the motherboard and processor I suggested, and the video card you've been given - it's just the power supply you'll need to replace. Here's a quality unit that has the right specs and will power your system fine:

That's fair enough - 1GB is fine for a system that's not a heavy gamer. The P5LD2 motherboard has 4 slots, so you could always add another 2x512 sticks at a later date

No problem. You didn't mention what type of system your old computer was - I assume you're planning to re-use things like the hard drive and the optical drives, and that's fine, but give some thought to your operating system - assuming Windows XP - you'll need to either perform a re-install or repair the existing installation, both by booting from the original CD. Procedures for the latter are in our tips-and-tricks forum.

im just reformatting the whole thing and selling the rest to my dad. i am still using the hard drives and dvd drive. i am also using xp but he has his own harddrives and stuff so that is no problem.

My currents specs are:
>2.8 GHz pentium 4 prescot
>no clue what my mother board is i got it for free
>Sapphire radeon 9600xt
>768mb of ram
>Western Digital 80gb EIDE harddrive(windows)
>Western Digital 320gb SATA harddrive(data)
>asus quietrack dvd burner

Isn't there a program that can scan your computer and it will tell you the specs?

edit:hey for the power supply do you have a suggestion for one with about 500watt?

I would stay far away. That unit is built by Solytech. Which is the same company as Deer and Allied. Some of the most feared names in powersupply lol. All that bling does not help.

Go for something like a FSP or Sparkle 450W from www.newegg.com or www.directron.com.

Just fyi, that ENH you see before the model name stands for Enhance. As mentioned previously, Silverstone uses them alot. Great quality, but just not up to snuff for your job.
