Concerned about Static Electricity

Hi,
I'm in the process of starting to build my own PC. And I have a question about Static electricity. The only place that I can really work on my new system has carpeting on the floor. Am I asking for problems, or are there precautions I can follow that will alleviate the Static.

denhags , been there this may seem a little over board I got a sheet of ply board and place it were I had the room and place everything I needed to do the build as well as useing rubber latex gloves. working around carpeting is asking for problems. If your kitchen is tile maybe a small table in there would be a better place to do this or a friends house were there is less carpeting. Holp this helps maybe someone else can give a better solution or idea.

get an ironing board and some cardboard so you are off the floor
now go to your pc shop and get an anti static wristband they are cheap and your all set

If you are really that worried, then you can just do what whitedragon suggested and buy an antistatic wristband from a shop for a small amount of money.
