download question
Hi Gang
Now I am sort of sure this belongs here. When ever you download a program, and do it properly, save and all that why is it most of them do not come with an EXE file. So you can execute it. Now another question along the same lines. When you download some programs it goes in the right place but gives you a link that you cannot open it with out clicking on some other program to open it with. I know there is a name for this that I cannot think of the name right now. And the list of programs you have does not allow you to open it in any of them. Now can you set some thing to when you download a program, have it set so you can, when you go to the folder that you down loaded it too, install/open it by clicking on an EXE or what ever. I know some programs do this but my not all of them.??? I will try to send you a picture of the file I am talking about if Nec. Thanks.........Gunny |

If you get the box to pop up that asks you to specify a program to use it means there probably isn't a program installed on your computer that can open that particular file format. Like if you don't have Office installed and you try opening a Word doc, there won't be a program to handle the file. It's hard to say without any specifcs though...

download
Hi Cricket and blue
Blue you are right, that is what I am talking about. A little square with a blue line at the top and 3 little dots in the bar. I keep forgetting what they call that. When you download something/program why does it give you that as compared to a exacutional icon of some sort.???? How do you deal with that.???? Is there any way to change that into some thing you can do some thing with.???? Thanks.........Gunny |

Are you sure you're downloading an executable file?
Exactly what are you downloading? Cricket

Hi Cricket
Ok say you go to a download site and you see a program you think you will use, and it is a safe site. So you go through the procedure and down load the program. You go to the folder you downloaded it too, and there sits this icon I was describing. Instead of there being some sort of exe there is nothing but this icon I described. I am trying to show you what I mean, what is the easiest way to take picture of some thing on your desktop.? I did it some time ago but forgot how to do it. Thanks.......Gunny |

Screen capture: Hit the Print Screen key and then open Paint> Edit> Paste. Save the file as a jpeg.
Do you have the option to hide file extensions checked in Folder Options? Are you sure you're not downloading some type of zipped file? Cricket
