Amount of power need for a build

Hi all,
A friend of mine is putting together a new build and is getting a PSU of over 700w.
I have a new 550w I was going to give them. it's of very high quality and should work fine.
The build is going to be an asus board..not sure which one with an E6700, and an 8800GTS
they want to add a few more fans.. They got the advice to put in more than 700w PSU.
I can't imagine that a high quality 550W PSU wouldn't work with that setup. I'm sure you folks have a better idea about it. I would appreciate a little input here. I would think the extra cost of electricity would be noticeable with that thing running. I know I saw a big difference when I went from an old 250w to a new 550w.

We would need to know the full specs of this computer...but a good quality 550 watt PSU will power almost anything out there except for systems with dual high powered video cards (SLi/CrossFire).

Thanks Cricket,
Thats all I really wanted to know I guess. That I wasn't nuts in thinking that 550w was pretty sufficient power for most builds short of as you say possibly running two of those power monger 8800's and such. Always good to get other peoples thoughts when you question your sanity.
