computer built, need advice before boot

hi all, ok i have built my system, every sata device installed with data and power connectors.

floopy drive installed now correctly, thanks to cricket as i was installing it wrong way round!

GPu installed, USb header (2 extra USB ports) added on successfully.

memory card reader installed in case but not connected to USB header yet as need to install the OS before connecting those extra memory card drives..

two case fans are plugged into correct fan ports on the motherboard.

now comes my confusion...

the PSU (corsaid HX 520W) has 3 wires, i read manual, and plugged in the 24 pin main power supply and the other 4 pin 12V power into relevent places on the MB. i then have one 8 pin plug on a wire that i have hanging loose, and reading manual with the PSU indicated that is correct (as that 8 plug wire is used instead of the 4 pin one on older MBs).

i then have a Y adaptor from the PSU which has 2 4 pin plugs suitable for floppys or some fans, with which i have connected my floppy for power.

i then from that Y connector (there are other connectors on there) i use an adaptor to use one connector to give me two SATA power cables to which i powered my DVD burner and HD.

the problem I have is that i have nothing connected to the PWR_FAN port on the MB and Im sure there is something supposed to be put on that!

the PSU comes with some FAN ONLY adaptors but those are big plugs and dont fit the little 3 pin PWR_FAN socket, and the little 4 pin adaptors which connect to floppy drives (which state they are commonly used for some fan controls too) dont fit as they have 4 pins and the socket has 3, its similar to the fan connectors for other fans.

unless of course I am completely wrong and that socket is just a place for another fan to be connected? but the PSU has its own fan so why would you have a power fan?

It looks like the fan connector is used to power case fans and/or if the case has a fan controller.
The PWR_FAN port is probably for an RPM sensor from the PSU if the PSU had one for external connection. If your PSU doesn't have one, don't worry about it.
As for the 8 pin plug, some newer mobos have an 8 pin conection instead of the 4 pin for the CPU power. The 8 pin may split apart to give you two 4 pin connectors.

powers on, it worked! i am so happy, my first build and all, i know ive read guides galore and all manuals front to back and spent most of the day building it, but still chuffed its actually a working system and no BSOD! now installing OS, 320gb hard rive takes a while to format in NTFS. but then will open her up again and plug in the memory card reader then all done, now just need to buy a new 22" samsung monitor.
