Need help on new build

Hey I'm building a new PC and am new to it. I have picked out the components I want to use, but have a few questions.

Build:

Ram- A-DATA 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820211066

CPU- Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...ore%2b2%2b6600

Case- APEVIA X-CRUISER-BK Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811144151

Mobo- GIGABYTE GA-P35C-DS3R LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128048

Sound: Onboard mobo sound

Video: XFX PVT84JUDD3 GeForce 8600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130082

PSU: Rosewill RD600N-2DC-SL-SLV ATX Form Factor 12V V2.2 / SSI standard EPS 12V 600W Active PFC Power Supply - SLI Ready Auto Switching ( 90-264V ) CSA, UL, TUV
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817182088

Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320620AS (Perpendicular Recording Technology) 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148140

CDDrive: IDK

I have two questions:

1. For the cddrive, a lot of them are IDE connecters, but I dont think the mobo uses that, so do you use the SATA connecter drives? anyone have a suggestion for a drive to use?

2. Also, since the hard drive is OEM, what cables do you need for it?

Thanks for the help, this is my first build, only thing I've ever done is put some upgrades into my current computer. Also, if you have any suggestions for the configuration or see any problems with it (I tried to match the ram and processer with the mobo's compatible lists) please tell me. Thanks again.

Get a Lite-On SATA DVD Burner.

SATA data cable will come with the motherboard.

Don't use a Rosewill power supply, get something with a proven track record of reliability. See this thread.

I wouldn't use a XFX video card, I'd get a EVGA.

The Gigabyte motherboard is okay, but a better one would be an ASUS P5B or P5K.

Thought I should leave a little more info, thanks for your post cricket.
I'm looking to build an intel gaming computer in the sub 1000 price range. Currently, I get 10-25 fps in Counter strike source on pretty low settings. Dont want to spend to much, but want components that will last for games to come.

Also, for the gigabyte motherboard i wanted to get it because it allows ddr3 ram, does that really matter enough to not get the asus p5b or p5k?

From what I've seen on the forums and online, intel is going to drop prices on the 22nd. Do you think it is worth it to get the quad over the 6600 when they drop? Also, do you know what the 6600 will drop to?

thanks again

A tight budget and wanting to keep a computer up to date enough to play the latest games usually don't go together very well.

Just so you know...whenever a new technology is introduced there tends to be lots of bugs associated with it. If you want a stable system it's best to go with proven parts with a good track record. If this were my computer I'd go with the ASUS P5B or P5K. Gigabyte likes to be first on the block with new technology but their motherboards have a history of being kind of flakey because the new technology isn't proven and the bugs haven't been worked out yet. So essentially, you're the guinea pig whose helping them to find all these bugs.

Nope. Again, it's a new technology that has yet to prove itself. And I really doubt that having 4 cores is going to improve gaming by much.

Hey thanks for all the help cricket. I think I will use this power supply because it comes 30 off witha combo with the CPU:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371001

I realize that that psu is probably overkill, but with the discounts it might be worth it.

I've been looking at the asus p5b's and k's on newegg and none of them seem to have very good reviews. Do you have any suggestions for a good one? I don't need a SLI setup so one pci-e port is fine.

Also, I will be moving to Hawaii in the beginning of August so want to get my new comp together so I dont have to ship parts out there (shipping is quite a bit more). Is it worth it to wait till the 22nd for the 6600 core2duo to drop in price or should I be safe and get it now? Anyone know how much they are supposed to drop?

Thanks again.

Take the reviews on Newegg with a very large pinch of salt, most of them are commented by people who really don't know what they are talking about.

You cannot go wrong with an Asus P5B/P5K, they are excellent boards.

Hey thanks for advice bought newegg comments.

Is this board good?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131030

Also, it says

Notice: Only DDR2-800 memory supporting JEDEC approved 1.8V operation with timings of 5-5-5 or 6-6-6 is supported on Intel Desktop Boards based on Intel 965 Express Chipsets.

What memorary will be good to use with that?

Thanks again.

Corsair XMS2 2GB DDR2 800

Does it not matter that it is 1.9v?

i use that memory with a P5B board and it works great...
Maybe someone can explain what they mean by specifying 1.9V in this notice

"For the mainstream desktop processors, while Core 2 Duo E6000 family has no price update information at this moment, its relatives, Core 2 Duo 6050 family which features 1333MHz FSB releasing on July 22, has got a very impressive price advantage. The 3 models including E6550 (2.33GHz), E6750 (2.66GHz), and E6850 (3GHz) are only priced at $266, $183, and $163, around 40% cheaper than its 1066MHz version. Together with the new release of Bearlake featuring 1333MHz FSB, the both releases are expected to have great sales."

So actually on the 22nd you may wish to get one of the new models featuring 1333MHz FSB, being able to get the top end version if you so wish at only a $40 increase on current day pricing of the E6600.
