What are the current parts you have that you are going to use in the new build?
What is the total budget you have available to spend? I would really recommend going with an Intel Core 2 Duo build right now, they outperform the current AMD build as of right now. |

I have a 60gb HDD which is fine as i have a 400gb external if i need it, LG DvD writer, going to use the onboard sound, have a 19in flat screen samsung monitor.
That lot comes to just over £200, hich is about the amount i want to spend, although obviously if that spec cant do what i want then i wil need to increase it. I may need a new case and PSU so that will take it up to £300. I have always had AMD, and as far as i know the Intels are a bit more expensive and i dont think i will use the extra power it will have anyway. |

AMD makes great chips but right now they are a bit behind the curve. I think if you really compair $/performance you will find intels are actually cheeper. More bang for the buck!
The main reason I would recomend intel is that they are new technology. They run cooler and likely have a better upgrade path. AMD is already talking about changing sockets again and their chips are both larger and hotter then comparible C2D. All that being said, AMD is still a great chip and if you dont need the power or future upgrade path there are some very good deals out there right now on them. |
