Initial Bootup Problem

Components:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
nVidia GeForce 8500GT
550 Watt PSU (OKIA brand)
Gigabyte GA-945P-DS3/S3 Motherboard
Spire Blackfin Case
Western Digital 160GB SATA 3Gb/s Hard Drive
Sony DVD Drive
Samsung DVD RW Drive
1 GB Wintec AMPO DDR2 667 RAM

Everything necessary is installed, hooked up, and connected to power. I go to boot the system, and everything turns on, all LEDs, all fans, but only for one second. No time to even let the PC beep. My two ideas are that the jumpers aren't connected right, or something is wrong with my PSU.

Thanks for any help!

Try the out of case build which has instructions located here: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=168456

When doing this you must remove the motherboard from the case.

Okay, I found the two pins, and the system powers on for only a little longer. Maybe 4ish seconds. The screen turns into some kind of title screen, but then the system powers down again.

Your heatsink might not be installed properly. Follow the instructions found here: LGA775 heatsink installation guide.

Installing the heatsink correctly is easier to do with the motherboard out of the case.

If the heatsink is installed correctly then the next step would be to try another compatible power supply. Your Okia is not a good one.

I'm going to suggest that either the PSU isn't up to the job, or you have a grounding problem.

I have never heard of that brand psu, but do the out of case build with the minimum of components, and see where you go. Also make sure that you have the Heat sink assembly correctly installed. They can be a bit tricky.

I have not come across that RAM either, do you have 2x512 or a single 1 gig stick?

Also make sure that you have everything seated correctly, it's worth just giving everything a final push just to make sure.

ahhh Mr Cricket beat me too it....

I would check to make sure that your grounded. Did you screw the motherboard in on top of the spacers that came with the case? Also, make sure your motherboard is fully powered. Check your manual for all necessary power connections.

Hate to bust your bubble but Okia PSU's are not good quality. I would suspect that it is the culprit. Did it come with the case? It is a general rule that PSU's included with cases are of poor quality (although there are a few exceptions). This list is helpful for finding a good PSU: http://www.forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=131195 . As you can see Okia is in the bad section. There is a chance that it will work, but if it does, it could die later on and kill some of your other components. That isn't a common name brand ram. If the PSU is the problem, then I would suggest running Memtest on the ram after you get Windows installed and check to see if it is ok.
