New build recommendations

my 4 year old but upgraded Dell is giving me problems so Im thinking its time for a new computer. I have built one before, but its been a few years, so I wanted to make sure I do this right with the newer technology.

I am just a normal computer user. No games or sophisticated software. Just want a solid computer that can age well.

What I have that can be used:
Maxtor 250GB sata 1.5 HDD
Seagate 500GB ide HDD.
Lite-On DVD burner ide

I picked out this CPU:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 Conroe 2.13GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor - Retail

Case/PSU

will 300 watts be enough? I do not know how to figure how many watts are needed.

So I need advice on a motherboard. The case I chose is microATX. I would prefer it comes with a video and sound card on it.

I am planning on using Vista since I don't have software or inputs that should be an issue.

thanks for your help

I would put the 500GB Seagate IDE HDD in an external housing and use it for off computer storage and backups.

Depends on the video card you're going to use...but it sounds like you could use on-board video. A simple computer using on-board video, 1 SATA HDD, 1 IDE optical drive, the E6420 and a decent amount of RAM can be powered by a good quality 300 watt PSU.
