Motherboard Question For Current Build (building RIGHT NOW)

:P Yeah, I have a question about the motherboard, and well... mounting it. Is there anything I need to put in the case to place the mobo on, or do I just set it in, line up the screw, and screw it down?

P.S. I'm asking because neither my ASUS P5L mobo manual tells me, nor my case. My case doesn't come with anything like a manual.

Before you install the motherboard into the case you should try to get POST outside the case. This tells you if the core components are good or not. See this thread.

After you determine the core components are good and before you mount the motherboard in the case you have to see if the standoffs (little brass or plastic posts) that the motherboard sits on are installed in the proper mounting holes. There are holes with metal rings around them on the motherboard...these are the mounting holes. The standoffs should line up to these holes...any stray ones should be removed from the motherboard mounting tray before you install the motherboard.

Yes, they're necessary to keep the little pins sticking out from the underside of the motherboard from touching the case and causing a short.

The I/O plate? What doesn't line up? And do you have the right I/O plate installed in the case? The motherboard should have come with one...you remove the one that came with the case and install the one that came with the motherboard.

Thunderhead, try not to spam.

Also Fo1k-E, I notice you have several different threads open at the moment in this category, try to just keep it to one thread, even if you have completely unrelated questions you can still keep them in one thread for yourself.

Those raised bumps are the standoffs that you mount the motherboard to. You only install the extra standoffs if necessary. If your motherboard doesn't have a mounting hole for the extra standoffs, the standoff is gonna hit the underside of the motherboard and cause a short.

Please use the Edit button instead of making lots of new posts (especially like the 8th post). Sometimes you just have to wait for answers to your questions...in fact, you should have started your own thread regarding this. This thread belongs to Fo1k-E.
