new copmuter builder question

I just made my first computer and after i connected everything i tried to power it up, but when i pressed the button, my rear fan turned on for a second then shut off. Is this a problem with the how i connected everything? Im knew to this stuff so if its possible try not to use 'big; words ill just get lost. TY

this is the set up:
-AMD 64 X2
-Thermaltake TR2-430W
-ASUS-SLI AMD Socket AM2 CPU (or something like that)
-G.Skill 1024mbx2
-ZalmanCNPS9500 which i have to get a new one because i found out that the socket was wrong....
-and the hard drive and cd thingy i took from my previous computer

Possibly something shorting the motherboard, more than likely you may have the standoffs in the wrong place, I would try this to see what results you get.

Don't forget when doing this you must remove the motherboard from the case.

Make sure you're installing the heatsink correctly. If the heatsink isn't making good contact with the CPU, the CPU can overheat very quickly and the system will automatically shutdown to prevent the CPU from frying.

So do you have any sort of heatsink and fan combo on the processor? Or are you just trying to turn it on with nothing there? It won't stay on if there is no CPU cooler beacuse it would overheat and damage your CPU. Also did you plug in the extra 4 pin power plug?
