Feel free to criticize after all, all i want is the best bang for my buck! TIA G-dogg |

If that PSU is from a few years ago, it may not be an ATX 2.0 standard which is needed for today's PCI-E motherboards. An ATX 2.0 or newer will have the 20+4 main connector AND a 4 pin CPU connector. And will have a PCI-E connector. ATX 2.0 units have a higher 12v current rating than the older ATX PSUs. A 400w ATX 2.0 should have at least 20 to 24 amps on the 12v rail.

hmm i dont think mine has the 20+4 then +4 cpu, it says ATX12V1.3/ATX 2.10 compliant, the +12V has 18 amps, would i be able to get a kit to convert it, if not, what would be your suggestion for a relatively cheap but reliable psu?

You need a new PSU. Newegg has Fortron and Sparkles 450w units in the $50 range. Any other brand that is cheaper is going to be in the cheap junk catagory.
