Wanting to build a new computer
I havn't looked into current pc hardware in awhile so i'm not too sure on what to go for so far i have come up with this selection:
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB ST3320620AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM: £52.86 Pioneer DVR-112DBK 18x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter - (Black) OEM £19.96 Antec Nine Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case £64.61 Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C5 TwinX (2x1GB) £66.96 Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail £150.39 Asus Commando Intel 965 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard £140.88 OCZ StealthXStream 600w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Power Supply £58.74 BFG GeForce 7950 GT OC 256MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail £117.49 total=£672.01 including VAT The graphics card will be used as a placeholder untill christmas. At this time i have no plans of running windows vista or any direct X10 games so I want to keep the price as low as possible. If you can see any improvements on the current hardware i have chosen please tell me. I would also like to know if the motherboard is a good overclocker and if the ram is suitable for over clocking. Thanks in advance. |

Your list is pretty solid. One small point, if you want to burn DVDs, should look to a retail package(for the burning software). Look to the Lite-On brand.

You might want to change the optical drive to lit-on retail it comes with nero burning software.. Than Antec case is a good choice I'm currently using it.. Just make sure the wires for that psu is long enought to reach the mb connector as it mounts on the bottom of the case..

I'd consider this card - at that price it will act as a superb placeholder. Mine is still capable of playing new games at top graphical settings.
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...=56&subcat=404 I'd personally recommend a motherboard with the newer P35 chipset - like the ASUS P5K, but I can't comment on its overclocking abilities. With the older P5B series, I believe the Deluxe version was the best overclocker - perhaps this is the case with the P5K boards: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=MB-236-AS

I'm in the same boat as you with regards to having left the hardware scene for a while.
All I can add to this is that Intel is rumored to slash prices on the 22 of July since they're introducing some new chips, so wait till then. Also, look into corsair PSU's, they got very good ratings over at silentpcreview.com

You'll need Mac hardware for Mac OS...
