what are you planning to use the pc for and can you tell us your budget?
i would recommend Corsair memory. Kingston should work but lately their quality is not as good. Look for Seagate SATA HDs with 16MB buffer - they also have 5 year warranty vs 1 year from Maxtor. Would be nice if you posted links to the parts that we could see the specs. |

£250 is going to be very tight for building a computer - particularly if you need peripherals like speakers, keyboard, mouse etc. What kind of performance are you looking for from this build? If you're wanting a web-surfer / office machine, you'll probably find that a pre-built DELL will offer you the best value for money. If you're wanting a gamer, you should consider upping your budget.

£400 with an 8800 series card is still going to be pretty impossible. The CHEAPEST one I could find is over £180 by itself. I specced you out these core components:
ASUS P5LD2 http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...uct_uid=119045 Intel E4300 http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...uct_uid=121407 Corsair 2GB RAM http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=98691 Antec Sonata III Case & quality power supply http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...uct_uid=128045 Seagate 250GB http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...uct_uid=113433 NEC DVD-RW http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...uct_uid=125208 I've tried to cut some corners here without compromising quality, but all that works out at £313 inc VAT, and you still need a video card and an operating system. Adding an ATI x1950 pro would take you just about up to your £400 budget: http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/126834 Not as powerful as an 8800 series card, but still good enough to play modern games with good graphical settings. If you want the best visual performance, then I'd look at a £500 budget. |

If you're willing to spend a bit more on the motherboard, then I'd go for the ASUS P5B
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/121112 The P5N-E is getting you SLI support, which for all but those with the largest budgets, is not a viable upgrade path. The P5B will get you a newer chipset than the board I initially recommended - one that was designed for Core 2 Duo rather than just modified. The 4400 processor is fine. |

You might re-think SLI as an upgrade path. Finding an identical, and it has to be identical I have heard, 7600 down the road might be hard. Secondly, I think a single 7800 will outperform 7600 in SLI right now so you will get no where near 8800 performance from two 7600s.
SLI is really not designed as an upgrade path but to increase the performance of the fastest cards currently available. So unless you can spring for two 8800s right now it would be better to save a bit of cash on the MB now and use it to upgrade to a bigger and better card when the time comes. Anyway, thats my opinion for what its worth. Go check out video card performance at Toms Hardware and you can get a good picture where your two 7600s in SLI will place you. Kat |

And I'd fully agree with Katreat there. Get the best video card you can afford now. Replace it when it no-longer meets your needs - that's the way to get the best performance.
