cheap as hell build
$300ish budget to satisfy these requirements:

uhh i think the whole thing is unwise, because this computer has no upgrade ability whatsoever. You also need to have two sticks of ram to run using dual channel memory so get 2x512 mb modules. unless you want to waste money on a sound card the motherboard you have has onboard sound so you really dont need that card.

This is not the best idea to do in the first place but if you must....
That PSU is not going to hold up at all. It poor quality and could even take other parts with it when it burns out which will be quick if it even works at all. Refer to this: What Power Supply should I get? How many Watts? Who made it? Guide Inside You shouldn't need to buy case fans, they usually come with the case. Get a motherboard from Asus. I don't think the VIA chipsets are the best either. That video card dosen't meet your requirements...... You will be MUCH better off saving up some more money and in this price range you'd be better off with a prebuild anyways. |

Heck if inexpensive is the goal that set-up will be fine except for the psu and the mobo/cpu combo. Go AMD for the processor and if you can get a motherboard with a better chipset. The AMD processors run more efficiently in this price range and deserve a looksee. As stated by the other guy's, the power supply is not something to cheap out on. Your budget has room to improve these things too. Totally agree with a pre-built being a better route if a screaming deal can be found for you. In fact a buddy of mine just found a refurbished HP at Costco that had an AMD 4000 processor and 17in. monitor for less than 350.00. That is nice set-up!!

For an extremely tightly budgeted build I would recommend getting a low end Dell machine or something else, because picking out quality parts and still keeping the price down to such a low level can be extremely difficult.

Going Vista with such little RAM could be a mistake but then again Vista would be cheaper than XP now, knowing Micro$oft.

The video card you selected doesn't even satisfy the requirements you listed. A gaming computer is going to cost more than $300...

Yes, and in the orginal post, it says "Video: 128 MB NVIDIA® GeForce® FX 6800 or ATI® Radeon® X850"
The 6200 is a low end card...the 6800 (or equivalent in the 7000 series) are in the mid-range. |
