SATA Drive won't detect even with drivers
Specs:
MSI P6N SLI-FI LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI ATX Intel MB, Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700, EVGA 768-P2-N831-AR GeForce 8800GTX, Seagate Barracuda 320 GB 7200 RPM, Corsair 2GB DDR2 Twin2X (x2), Windows XP Pro, Zalman 9700, Sony DVD/CD-RW, Antec True Power Trio ATX12V 650W I did not recieve the drivers with the MB, so I had to download them from the MSI website and create a floppy, but after pressing F6 and choosing the SATA control driver, it continues with the installation with windows untill it gets to the part where it needs to format the drive, however; it can't find the SATA drive. The files are not in a folder on the floppy and im pretty sure I have the right files on the disk. Are these the right files? txtsetup.oem, disk1, idecoi.dll, nvatabus.sys, nvraid.cat, nvraid.inf, nvraid.sys, nvraidco.dll. I've also checked to make sure the SATA cable is plugged into SATA port 1, and have double checked the power. I have no clue what to do, perhaps something in the bios, no idea. Please help. |

Unless you are intending to use RAID, you shouldn't need any drivers. The MSI MB supports SATA.

Still won't detect SATA drive. Is there anything I can disable in the bios or enable that might be causing this?

have you made sure that the sata controllers are enabled in the bios? what about double checking all the cable connections?

Seems you are narrowing the scope of the probelm down to the HDD or MOBO. Is the HDD spinning up or can you hear it coming on? If yes, move the SATA connection to another place on the MB and see. I guess it could be the controller? I assume your optical drives are IDE?

It appears so. Hard drive is probably DOA. I can't hear it spining. Yes I am running an IDE optical drive.
