Pick apart my gaming build

please tear it apart. I have listed multiple peripherals because I don't know what to get. Sound and gaming are important to me, that is about it. Do I need an ethernet card or anything for internet? Never built a computer before...Thanks! (I know intel processors drop the 22nd, I am waiting for that, is anything else significantly dropping in price soon?) edit: I need an os too, does anyone know of places that offer student or military discounts on hardware or software? Umm...I love this monitor....Sceptre...

did you have any problems with dead pixels? i think that samsung has a no dead pixel guarantee, or you can return it. also, i don't know much, but reading the customer reviews on that videocard, it seems support is fairly lousy. Thanks for the input though.
Edit: I am also not sure if my parts are compatible. |

no he is right the evga 320mb oced edition is actually faster than the 640 mb one, you can see for youself if you want http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics.html.
G.skill ram should be good if you aren't planning on overclocking, and im not sure you will need all 700watts with the ps. As for the monitor i have a sceptre 1080p and it has one dead pixel, i hear the samsungs are great monitors so if you dont have a set amount of money you can spend go for the 2ms response time one. The issue I have with Sceptre is that they come with 1year warranties. I'd feel much safer with the 3yr warranty that Samsung's have. The 22" widescreen in your Wish List would be my first choice.

none of the above, the vid card beepbeep linked wasnt evga, it was leadtek. I believe you on the speed, its just that many customers have said leadtek has lousy support.
edit: thanks on the input, however. also, no offense, but that is only one benchmark on one game. not that i don't appreciate the input, but I just want a powerful AND reliable vid card. If you say it is reliable, you have my attention, but many customers have said that the leadtek videocard has lousy support, which concerns me. I do believe you on the 320 oc, however. btw, im not opposed to ati graphics card or amd processors. whatever is best, is best. i want the best bang for my buck
edit:: i really want to play games at 1600x1200, but i dont think that widescreen monitors support it, if i have to go wide screen (which do you recommend ?) I would like to play at 1680 x 1050. keep that in mind as well Last edited by hooah; 07-19-2007 at 04:17 PM. |

I've always been partial to AMD (last intel I owned was the Pentium original)... but as much as I hate to say it, AMD is eating the dust of Intel right about now. Intel is definitely the way to go.

Uhh...yes Leadtek America has very lousy support...BUT...nonetheless...that Leadtek oc'ed card is the best card i've ever owned. Plus: it beats a 640MB ver. lol......... yes...I'd also reccomend that evga card...as it is a little cheaper and oc'ed a little more...(I got the leadtek on sale at Newegg for
$259.99) I also have NO problems with my Sceptre 20" as it has no dead pixels at all! PS: But as Alaron said...it has a 1 year waranty. I still love it though! BEST MONITOR EVER!!! lol.... |

The Samsung 226BW you have in there is the best choice by far. I personally have the 225BW so I can tell you from experience you will not regret it. It is also a well known brand and they have good reliability and customer service.
Wait for the Intel price drops also. For a 22" monitor, go with the 640mb version. The difference between the 320mb and 640mb versions are seen when you have a bigger monitor. For anything under 20", 320mb is fine. Any larger and 640mb is the better choice. EvGa is generally recommended for Nvida cards. ATi/AMD has just released a few DX10 cards, but the Nvidia's seem to have a better bang for the buck. For the motherboard, Asus is recommended for reliability reasons. Choose from one of the P5B or P5K line. They are rock solid. Watts isnt everything with power supplies. The Corsair HX-620 is generally recommended for gaming builds because of its high quality and 5 year warranty. It isn't cheap but you can't cut corners on the power supply. Stick with Corsair Value Select 667mhz ram. Get 2 gigs. Unless you are overclocking, you will see no performance gain with 800mhz ram over 667mhz. The motherboard has sound and ethernet ports build into them. There are even versions of the P5B and P5K with built in WiFi. The hard drive in your list is great. 5 year warranty and best dollar to GB ratio. |

I have 20" inch monitor @ 1680x1050 That Samsung 22" monitor is 1680x1050. SAVE YOUR MONEY!!! MOST GAMES @ 1680x1050 with 8xAA and 8xAF GET 75FPS!!! SAVE YOUR MONEY!!! |

Yes, perhaps some DX9 games do, but I doubt that will be the case on more demanding DX10 games in years to come. Personal choice I guess...

Taking a quick look I don't see any significant differences except at 1920x1200 resolutions. Now they don't test any DX10 games. Taking another quick look on Newegg it appears there's the $100 difference between the two.
