Upgrade time!

Hey guys its been awhile since I been on here, or even worried about my computer. Its not slow still runs like day one, but I want an upgrade for better gaming (nothing big, just diablo II and maybe something in the future)

as of now i got:
Graphics: GeForce Fx 5500 Oc. 256MB ddr APG 8x/4x
Mobo: MSI Kt4a-v
Ram: Kingston 1 Gig (2x 512mb)
Processor: AMD Athlon XP 2800 (ithink) 1.1 ghz

this stuff is well outdated but i never needed a upgrade cause its lightning fast still, but compared to my laptop i just got (that is no means a gaming one. got it for school) its SLOW..

plz offer suggestions, i havent been around comps for while and im not good with the new technology that came out. Im just looking for a higher FPS and less lag. i figured this 4 parts were the ones that actully matter

thanks in advance

What kind of budget are you working with? If you're gaming, a video card upgrade would be your best choice to start with. Then another GB of RAM.

well im not really on a budget, im not making it a super gaming comp. i just need it to run what games i rarely play a bit quicker. right now im playing diablo ii and in game there are areas where i get 5 FPS!!!!!!!! but standing still i get like 40-45, and if im running around or w/e like 20-25.. its hard to play and i die alot because i cant move

just basically want it to be more smooth and be able to handle games in the future if i decide to play w/o going crazy

Ok, I'd pop in this 7600GS: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130076 It will be plenty of extra power for your games.

Make sure you have a 350w PSU though. Anything less would be a strain.

Your old card was a Fx 5500. The 7600 is two generations newer, thats a huge leap. You are looking at the graphics memory, which is the same in both models, but the processing power of the 7600 is much greater in terms of efficiency.
