Hello everyone,
I'm back again. ![]() I'm building a server and 3 workstations for someone, and I need some last-minute comments and suggestions on the builds. Server: CPU: Intel Xeon E5320 Clovertown http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819117115 Memory: Patriot 2GB FB-DIMM DDR2-667 (2 of these - I've had good luck with Patriot before) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820220178 Hard Drive: Seagate 7200.10 500GB Hard Drive (until upgrade - a lot of space is needed) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148136 Motherboard: SuperMicro Dual Socket 771 Intel 5000V http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813182097 Case: Codegen 4U Rackmount (have used two of these cases in the past, they're great) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811182566 Fans: Kingwin 80mm's and a 120mm (I've used the 80mm's before and they're fine) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811999964 and http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811999965 DVD Drive: Lite-On DVD-ROM (until Blu Ray drive) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106039 Power Supply: Antec NeoHE 500W Power Supply (I have this already from another build - I'm really hoping it will power this setup with room to add more memory, another CPU, a Blu Ray drive, and another or more hard drive(s)) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817103940 We want to keep this at or below $1,400. I also need to build 3 workstations for office/development use as mentioned above. Can someone please recommend a good dual-core Intel processor and a good motherboard to go with it? Sorry, I'm a bit out of the loop so to speak.

With the price drops coming on the 22nd, there'll be new 1333MHz FSB CPU's out to look into. A P5K would go well... if the workstations don't need anything real beefy, even a E6600 would work. Quad core prices are coming down as well if the apps that will be run will benefit...

Thanks for your input, Blue.
Would you guys recommend a single Intel quad-core Clovertown server (advantage is it is upgradeable to 8 cores) or a dual AMD dual-core 2212 server? Also, if you guys had a good motherboard in mind for either of these servers that would be great. Also, what would be a good processor for just office needs? It should be dual core. Is the Antec NeoHE 500w power supply enough for a dual processor setup? I just need to know soon as we need these systems as soon as possible. Thanks for your help, everyone! |
