Compatibility
Hey guys,
I am going to build my own computer for the first time. I'm going to use this for some fairly serious gaming, but don't have a huge budget. I have picked out all the parts, but I just want to make sure there aren't any possible compatibility issues that I haven't noticed, and if there is anything else that I might need (note: I am using the dvd drive from my old pc). Thanks for your time, and here is the list: Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Ultimate Gamer Case Seagate Barracuda (ST380815AS) 7200 SATA NCQ 3.0Gb/s 80GB 8MB Cache (OEM) Mushkin EM2-6400 DDR2-800 2x1GB EM Series (996527) (2x1024MB) Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe Socket AM2 nVidia nForce 570 SLI Chipset Chipset 2 x PCI Express x16 Slot Full x16 Speed SLI Ready Dual-Ch DDR2/800/667/533 Serial ATA 3.0Gb/s Dual GB Lan 8-Ch High Definition Audio Support DTS IEEE 1394a Heat-pipe Thermal Corsair HX Series CMPSU-520HX 520W ATX Triple Power Supply 120MM Fan 12V 50A Continuous 24PIN ATX Modular eVGA GeForce 8800GTS 320 Meg Superclocked PCI-E 320-P2-N815-AR AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ (65W) Dual Core Socket AM2 Windsor 2.6GHZ 2000FSB 2X512KB 90NM Retail Box |

That looks compatible, but a couple questions:
What's your budget? Are you totally committed to AMD? Right now the Intel Core2Duo processors are better bang for your buck. I'd get a C2D e6600 or e6750 and an ASUS P5B or P5K for a motherboard. The superclocked video card probably isn't worth the extra expense. An 8800 of any sort will handle everything on the market just fine.

I am fairly set on AMD as far as processor/motherboard goes. I did check prices in my local area, and an Intel equivalent for that processor would cost me approx $70 more. And I picked the OC video card because it is only $15 more than the un-OC video card. I read somewhere that there could be an issue with the processor and the RAM because of odd numbers or something like that?

You're only getting a 80GB hard drive? You sure that's all the storage space you'll need?

yeah. for the hard drive if you want a gaming compute a seagate 320GB sata hard drive would be good |

I think you can double your storage space for another $10. That 80 gig (and even the other one) will fill up real quick with some of the newest games. Just something to think about.

Ok, I'll consider the bigger hard drive. But besides that, do all the other components and whatnot look ok to work with each other?

Your list looks compatible. I would agree with other and suggest you go with a larger HD and if you are using a 20in + monitor you might upgrade to a 640 mb memory video card. I have heard that the 320 might be a bit low for maximum settings on larger monitors. You also have a SLI MB so if you are thinking about SLI in the future you might want to check out power needs now and get a bit larger PSU. That PSU is great for any single card set up but SLI might require more.
