which processor
which proccessor would work best for gaming now and for the next few years; the Intel core 2 duo E6850 or the intel quad core Q6600?

The Core 2 Quad would be more future proof.

Definitely. I think games are slowly starting to catch on to mult-cores. Right now MS's Flight Simulator X is supposed to benefit pretty decently from multi-cores, as well I've heard about upcoming games being the same way.

I went with the core 2 e6850, waiting for the new 45nm processors to come out and for their prices to drop.

I personally agree with your choice. The 6850 is faster and it is duel core so it will take advantage of multi core games that are slowly showing up. Until games are actually designed to take advantage of >2 cores I would recommend the faster chip. By the time games really start demanding quad cores it will be time for an upgrade anyway.
