Biggest, Fastest Build you guys can think of
Alright guys, I need to spec out a really high end system for my workplaces smart classroom/theater room. My boss just told me to get the fastest, most powerful parts I can lay my hands on. Keep in mind though, it does need to be semi quiet as this will be a theater room. We are wanting to build something that is going to last for a few years. Not sure what the budget is, but he already had me order a video card for it,
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102099 not sure if we will ever need to run it in crossfire "mode", but it is a brand I've used in the past and it has 1GB of GDDR4 Ram. Here's what I was thinking as far as specs go: Intel Processor: at least Dual Core, maybe Quad Core ASUS MOBO: has to support quad core and at least 8GB RAM Powersupply: I know the card needs at least a 550w, I'm thinking something along the lines of a 800-1000W. Hard Drive(s): fastest thing out there, I don't know how much is actually going to be stored on the machine at this time Optical Drives: Definately a DVD drive, possibly blu-ray or hd??? Case: I really like Antec's cases, like I said, it need to be quiet so not a whole lot of 80mm fans. The monitor, keyboard, mouse and speakers can be dealt with later. I don't think my boss will go for something water cooled. Anyways, everyone feel free to give me some ideas. I primarily shop at Newegg for parts. Thanks guys. |

He doesn't have to spend 10 grand to build a system around that video card. Why not just spend less money on the PC and buy a boat. Or something?

Well, I don't believe in spending money for spending sake, but here is a list to get you started.
Motherboard: Asus P5K. CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600. RAM: 2GB of Corsair DDR2-800. (Without a 64bit OS, you can't use more then 4GB anyway.) PSU: Corsair 620HX Hard drives: You might look into a 150GB Raptor for the OS/Programs and some 500 or 750GB Seagates for storage. Drives: LiteOn SATA DVD Burner. You can try one of the hi-def drives, but they are too expensive right now. If he can wait on them, I'd suggest it. Otherwise, look into a combo unit to avoid being stuck with one format. Case is a personal choice, but I agree with Antec.

From personal exp raptors are not known for quite so you might try to determine if the little extra speed you get from them is worth it.
If he is even thinking of crossfire I would go for a little more PSU. If they recommend 450 for one card I assume 800+ for two? I would also agree with antec and would look at the P180 or P182. Kat |
