Heatsink Quesiton
I was installing the intel heatsink onto a core 2 duo processor and accidentally rubbed a bit of the thermal compound off. Is this gonna be an issue?

it might and it might not. when the cooler goes on the cpu it will smush down the heatsink paste so a little missed wont hurt. if you get high temps then you will want to reapply.

I'm not sure about AMD heatsinks because I haven't built a AMD system in about 5 years. Third party aftermarket heatsinks are generally sold with no thermal pad or compound. You have to buy it separately and apply it before you build. Cricket

If the machine is already built, just check the temperatures under load. Something in the 40s Celcius is to be expected with the C2D.

Well the machine is already built. I haven't been able to check for temps because I don't have a video card yet so as soon as I get one I'm gonna check to see how hot its running.
