Unhappy Won't boot

I am building a new gaming machine with the following spec:

Intel QX6700 CPU
Patriot DDR2/800 2gb RAM x 2
Thermaltake 850W ToughPower PSU
BFG 8800GTX 768MB OC2
ASUS P5N32-E SLI M/B

When I test the mb (not in the case (Thermaltake TaiChi Liquid Cool)) with the CPU, 1 stick of RAM, and video card, the mb light comes on, but will not power up. The PSU only powers up for 3-5 seconds before completly shutting down. Bothe the 24 pin and 8 pin PSU cables are connected to the mb.
I am on my second PSU and mb.
Any help is greatly appreciated,
~ gerald

Bought a new 850W PSU and same thing is happening. I just discovered that the PATRIOT 2GB DIMM are not on the ASUS QVL. Could that be the problem?
Any other ideas,
Thx

Generally, when you have a momentary power on then off on a new build, the problem is: CPU Heatsink not fully installed correctly(CPU overheats)
Bad PSU
Possibly a bad motherboard
How about trying to power on with just the PSU,motherboard, and CPU(with the heatsink). If it stays on without the video card or ram then one of the two are suspect.

Just got the MB from ASUS and am still having the same problem. Only have PSU, MB, CPU and heat sink installed. Can a bad CPU do this as well? It is the only thing not yet replaced.
Thanks,
- gerald

A bad CPU is a possiblity. An other possiblity is that the motherboard may need a BIOS up-date for the QX6700. Another cause is adding thermal compound to the to the CPU or heatsink without removing the thermal pad on the retail Heatsink. This can act as an insolator causing the CPU to overheat.
