first pc build

Hello, I'm new to these forums so hello.

I plan on using this pc for light gaming, media playing, and school work. I'm a student. I'm just looking for a smooth running pc that will be reliable and cost around/less than $1000

My friend recommended these parts :

motherboard
: ASUS M2N-E Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 Ultra MCP ATX AMDhttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131022

Hard Drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148140

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Windsor 3.0GHz Socket AM2 Processorhttp://www.newegg.com/product/Produc...82E16819103773

RAM: CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800http://www.newegg.com/product/Produc...82E16820145034

Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811144133
I heard this case comes with a bad PSU so I might either try buying a new PSU for this case or buy this case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130038 and also buy a PSU because it doesnt come with one. I'm open for suggestions for the PSU

Graphics card
: EVGA 320-P2-N815-AR GeForce 8800GTS 320MB 320-bithttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130038
this card seems kind of expensive for me, I could use a less expensive one. I'll be watching 720p DVD's on my monitor and would like to use the highest visual settings in games. (im playing CS source now)

OS: vista 32bit home premium
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116202

I already have the monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers and stuff. I dont know whether or not to stick with the fan the CPU comes in or if I should buy a new one. Thanks for the help

I don't build AMD computers anymore so I can't tell you if the CPU and motherboard are good or not, but the RAM, HDD and video card are fine.

Apevia cases can be decent quality or they can be down right cheap and flimsy. The one you selected looks to be one of their better cases but that TurboLink power supply is rubbish. You don't need a 500 watt power supply anyway, so look for a 400 - 450 watt PSU and check this thread for more PSU information.

You're getting a retail CPU so it'll come with the proper heatsink and a 3 year warranty. If you use any other heatsink you'll void that warranty so my suggestion is to use the stock heatsink...it's not bad and will work fine as long as you don't overclock (which would void your warranty too).

cooler master: (select package with case) http://www.newegg.com/product/Produc...82E16811119068
case: http://www.newegg.com/product/Produc...82E16811119068

thermaltake: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817153023
this one is pretty good price and pretty good reviews and has the amount of wattage I need.

Personally, I don't like Thermaltake products and would never use one of their power supplies...don't trust them. I use Fortron Source, Sparkle Power, Seasonic, Enermax and Antec power supplies when I build computers for other people. I only use Fortron Source or Sparkle Power power supplies in my own computers.
