Next Gen Nvidia Cards

hey I heard that one next gen Nvidia card will run faster then 2 8800 GTXs is this true? I am building a new rig and was thinking of going sli but if this is the case then i may just one GTX and save the $500 for next gen also with SLI the cards have to be the same correct??

the next gen vid card may not be faster than 2 8800gtx however its a good idea just to buy one 8800gtx because itll be able to handle anything you throw at it. also if you feel you must have a sli later then you could wait for a price drop or buy a next gen card later... no way of telling what new tech nvidia may come up with or the price... anyways just buy one im sure youll be happy with just one. also you could pay more on one vid card and buy a super duper overclocked one.
oh and yes the cards do have to be the exact same for sli

If you look at performance on tom hardware site history shows that the next generation is faster than the previous generation in SLI. No way to say that trend will continue, but looking at history it has always been that way.

With SLI the cards have to be identical. That is the problem with SLI as an upgrade path. If they stop making the card you have in the system you are out of luck.

Basically, SLI is for someone who needs to make the best better. If you put two of the best in it will be faster than one. I have heard up to 70% faster but reading most reviews it looks more like a 30-50% increase.
