hardware

I'm new to this forum, so forgive me if I'm in the wrong place.
I have some time on my hands and would like to build my own unit
I would l to start with a p4 processor 3.20 or higher.I use the computer for landscaping designing software and light gaming. My question for starters would be what would be the best mother board and vidio card i would need to start with. With upgradable options in th furture.

What's your budget? Do you already have a monitor etc.?
For the processor I would look at the new Core 2 Duo's (e6750, e6850), or a quad core processor q6600. The best motherboards for future upgradability are the ones with a P35 chipset...the Asus P5K recommended around here, although Abit and Gigabyte make good boards as well.
For the hard drive, go with a Seagate 7200.10 series, as much space as you need/can afford.
Some other members can help you with other parts.

Just remember to get a quality power supply...

Welcome to PCMech!

I believe this ought to go in the 'build your own pc' forum, but one of the moderators will come along and move it, so don't worry.
Right now the Intel Core2Duo processors are the best performance/$, so I'd encourage you to design your build around one of them.

What is your budget? Knowing this will help us recommend a balanced parts list.
*EDIT* beaten to the button :-)
