Matching RAM with MoBo

I am going to buy this motherboard:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131187

I will put this C2D in it:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115014

I choose the MB because it will allow upgrades later on. I dont do any gaming or run any sophisticated apps. My question is about how to determine what RAM I need. I understand matching the DDR2 800 aspect, but I get the impression that there is more to it. The MB will prefer a voltage and a cas latency (whatever that is). I looked at Asus' recommended RAM for this MB, but the list is so limited and had no recommendations for 2 X 1 GB sticks. Any advice on how to match RAM with the MB?

I want 2 sticks of 1 GB, DDR2 800. I found this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820134488

How do I know if it is compatible; it is not on the approved list.

All of those components "should", in theory, work together in harmony.

With regards to the memory, the important factors are indeed the type of memory and the speed of the memory. In this case 240pin DD2 800Mhz. Other specifications such as CAS and latency are important to people that plan to push their systems to the limits. Since you say you are not going to be doing anything too extreme with the system, they are aspects that should not really concern you too much.

Sometimes boards can be fussy about what RAM they work with. They "should" work together, but just don't. This is probably the reason Asus have offered recommended modules for the board. That said, you should be fine with the modules you have linked to.

For the Asus P5b or K boards, the basic ram is the Corsair Value Select DDR2 667 and for DDR2 800 the XMS 800 with a CAS 5.
