Power Supply Blew During Build Test
I was building a new system. I had the mobo, PSU, CPU, RAM, and video card set up and turned it on for a test. There was a pop and a spark came out of the 20+4 connector, I think specifically from the 4 pin connector. So now what? I obviously need a new power supply, but what about the other components? Is my mobo fried, too? Should I not take any chances and return any of the components that were installed at that time?

Could you list the brands/models of your components? The fact that the main ATX connector sparked is cause for concern - quality power supplies have over-voltage protection, meaning that in the case of failure, voltages capable of causing a spark should never reach the motherboard.
The spark *may* have fried the motherboard - the only way to know for sure is to replace the power supply for a known-working unit.

I forgot - RAM is 1GB x 2.
I have the power supply from my old computer, but it is only 400W. Is it suitable for the purposes of testing the mobo? |

OCZ do make quality units, but no power supply is immune to going pop. Am assuming here that the main ATX connector was *fully* seated when you did the initial power-on? What happens if you try to power-on the system with the current PSU, when assembled as per this thread:

The fans on the CPU and video card start, but I get no video. I tried hooking up the speaker, too, and it gives one long, continuous beep.

That Beep code is probably a memory error. Try one stick at a time. Also,Kingston ram have had quailty issues of late.

I did try one stick at a time and also swapping out for different memory. Also tried swapping out video card, all yields the same result--One long beep if no memory is installed, power down if memory is installed. My next guess is the motherboard.

Last time I got that long beep without video was when I forgot to hook up my PSU to the video card.
