For the ram, should go with the DDR2 800,works better with the AM2 socket. A 2gig kit of XMS DDR2 800 is around $80 with rebate.
The PSU, Thermaltakes aren't bad but would consider the Corsair 620HX. Can't say about the ATI since it's fairly new. Rest should work OK though MSI boards can be finicky for the novice.

I converted your inline image to a link, Deterrence. We keep these forums dial-up friendly. Thanks.

I assume your budget is around 1200, based on the price of the parts you've listed.
Right now, the Intel Core2Duo and Core2Quad processors are better bang/buck than anything AMD has out. Unless you've got a reason to stick with AMD, I'd switch. I had a bad experience with an MSI video card; the thing totally died, and 6 months later the warranty replacement died also. This may be unique to me, but I'd avoid MSI. ASUS motherboards are quite reliable and very beginner friendly. This Seagate harddrive is a couple $ more expensive, but comes with a 5 year warranty: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148262 If you go the intel route, you'll be fine with Corsair ValueSelect DDR2 667. Otherwise, that XMS2 looks good. If you're not overclocking you don't need an aftermarket CPU cooler. The one that comes with the processor is fine, and you must use it to preserve the 3 year warranty. We generally recommend LiteOn optical drives for reliability. I haven't heard anything either way as far as ASUS opticals, but they aren't known as a cd drive maker.... This LiteOn also comes with burning software: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106072 As far as the UPS, glc, (the residend uber guru) recommends the Tripp-Lite AVR, which runs about $20 more than what you've picked out. I'm not sure if that's brand-name inflation or if there's higher quality in there too. I'd tend to suspect higher quality.... I've just ordered 2 tripp-lites, but they're not here yet, so I can't give you a first hand report on them. Cases are entirely personal preference, so get what you like the look of. I agree with your thinking as far as XP vs. Vista, but you still want 2GB ram for any kind of gaming.
