First off, this thread is empty...you need to provide us with some information...you said you need advise to see if your parts are compatible. Well if you have a list of parts, please post it. If not, set your price range, decide if you want AMD or Intel, and start searching www.newegg.com and some other threads to get some ideas for parts. After you have a completed list, post it here and we will help you out.
If you give us some ground info, such as spending limit, do you need a monitor mouse and keyboard or just the PC? Would you like AMD or Intel? What will this PC be used for? Then some members will gladly recommend some parts for you. But as of right now, we can't do anythign with the little bit of info you have given us. Chaz =)

ok, thank you. I know that ATX cases and motherboards are compatible, and I guess specs will tell me about Ram and HDD. AMD is Socket A I think, so I guess if it says AM2 then they are compatible.
Thanks Again |

Socket A is two generations of AMD ago. The current standard for AMD is the AM2 socket. You must match the CPU and motherboard with the same socket for the parts to work together.
Post a list of your parts ideas and we can help you select the best options.

I think my processor is the same as yours. It's AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400 and it is socket AM2. The Motherboard I'm planning on is an Asus M2A-MVP AMD 480X and it also says Crossfire ATX AMD. Now I'm trying to figure out what harddrive to buy and also what optical drives to get. My motherboard comes with an FDD cable, and I have no idea what this is for. Now that I have more definite parts I hope it helps. Thanks again.

You should list out your exact parts similar to what you see in this thread.
http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=185038 That will REALLY help when we are trying to help you with your build. |

Thats a good start.
To help you best, we need to know a few things. What is your budget and what does that include (computer only or do you need an OS/keyboard/mouse/speakers/monitor/etc) ? What is the purpose of the computer? (gaming, office work, editing, etc) Check out this thread for information on power supplies: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=131195 It is important to buy a quality unit and not use the power supply included in a case. |

i'm hoping to spend around $700, and I need to buy almost everything. I might be able to use Ubuntu as my os, but I'm not sure. I'm gonna use it for office work, music and video editing, and I want to be able to play games as good as possible.
The only thing stopping me from buying two of these drives is I want to be sure that I'll be able to play and burn Cd's- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827135151 |

That drive is fine for a reader. Pair it with this drive and you're all set for burning: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106072

Any SATA hard drive will work with a modern, SATA capable motherboard, as the one you chose is. The Seagate 7200.10 drives are fast and reliable.
Generally, any case that you like the look of will suffice. It would make sense, from a cooling, and noise point of view, to choose one with dual 120mm fans - front intake and rear exhaust. You should note, however, that none of the power supplies included with those cases are of sufficient quality for you to consider using. You'll need to figure in the cost of a quality unit like this into your budget: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...Tpk=fsp%2b450w Another thing to mention - Ubuntu is a fine free operating system, but if you want to play games, you really do need Windows. To finish off your build, you need RAM and a Video card. Here are my suggestions: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145034 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121031 Hopefully we're still within your budget - if not, we'll need to make some adjustments. Add everything up and see where we're at.

That looks solid to me. Add in Freakitchen's suggestions for RAM and a video card and you're all set.
