8600GT and Shuttle SN25P

Hi all,

-The Background-
After managing to blow my first graphics card when I changed the processor I bought a cheap replacement to test if it was the slot or the card at fault. As it turned out to be the card I am now left with a crappy video card.

-The Question-
I've been looking at other video cards and I'd like to get a 8600GT but I'm not sure if the SN25P has enough power to ensure it works. It is not listed as a supported card on the manufacturer's website but not many are http://hq1.shuttle.com/services_supp...p?PCI=19&PI=89

Any recommendations? Or does anyone have a shuttle running with this card?

Thanks

I can't access the site. If you can, see if you can copy/paste the relevant parts...

What was your first graphics card?

Hi,
I can't access the site either now. Basically it listed about 15 cards.

My first card was a 6600GT and my current card is a 7100GS.

most likely you will be able to run 8600GT. The one that I have from eVGA doesn't even require additional +12V supply from PSU. It just uses power from PCI-E bus.

Hi, thanks for your reply.

I decided to go with the 7900GS due to slightly better direct x 9 performance than the 8600 - and I didn't want to splash out for a 8800. Since I don't have vista it seemed a better purchase.

7900GS requires a separate +12V supply and will need more powerful PSU...

this is what requirements on Newegg say:

Quote:
Minimum of a 400 Watt power supply.
(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 20 Amps.)
Minimum 500 Watt for SLI mode system.
(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 28 Amps.)
An available 6 pin PCI-E power connector (hard drive power dongle to PCI-E 6 pin adapter included with card)
